The house

Villa Octagon stands in a green pocket of the Essaouira countryside, ten minutes from town, surrounded by olive and argan trees and screened from view. Patinated steel, pale oak and wide glazed bays let the light run through the house all day. At night, the garden and the house light up.

We host no weddings, no parties and no loud evenings. We have neighbours, and we mean to keep the peace — which is exactly what our guests come for. Children sleep. So do their parents. Teams who come to work, and groups who come to practise yoga, find the quiet they were promised. That is what sets Villa Octagon apart from the other houses around Essaouira.

Its steady trade winds also make it one of Morocco’s best spots for surfing and kitesurfing. The town and the beach are fifteen minutes away by car, Essaouira-Mogador airport twenty-seven, and Marrakech about two and a half hours.
