Most villas around Essaouira close their pool in October. At Villa Octagon the 12 by 6 metre pool is heated and stays open all year. That is the difference between looking at a pool in winter and swimming in it.

What is the weather like from November to March?

The Atlantic softens everything: bright mild days, cool evenings, and the wind almost always there. You can have lunch outside, walk on the beach and wander the medina without the summer crowds or the heat of Marrakech. It is the season when the town feels like itself again.

What makes winter comfortable here

• The heated pool, private and open all year.
• The jacuzzi alongside it, for the evenings, whatever the season.
• The hammam indoors, after a day of wind and walking.
• Four living rooms and full air conditioning, heating included.
• The Berber tent in the garden, for sheltered evenings outside.

Christmas and New Year with the family

Thirteen people, one long table, two kitchens and a cook on request: the holidays here feel like a large family house in the sun. These are the most requested weeks of the year and they are often booked months ahead.

One thing to say plainly: the house stays quiet, even on New Year’s Eve. We do not host loud parties, out of respect for our neighbours.
